Mug and tumbler sublimation template sizes

Blanks from different factories differ by a few tenths of an inch, which is why every guide online gives slightly different numbers. The sizes below are what this generator uses, with the sources we checked on 29 September 2026. If sources disagree we say so; when in doubt, measure your own blank (circumference with a tape measure, minus the handle gap for mugs) and use Custom size.

The 40 oz tumbler narrows towards the base, so it can’t be wrapped with one rectangle without wrinkles. Makers print the straight upper body and the tapered lower band as two pieces; this template lays them out one above the other on a single sheet, and a full-wrap design continues from one piece into the other.

How to use the template

1. Pick the product and what it’s sized for: a sublimation blank you press yourself, or Printify / Printful if they print it for you.
2. Choose bleed. For blanks, 1/8 in is a good default: the extra background overlaps at the seam so no white line shows. For Printify and Printful choose “None” — their files must be the exact size.
3. Download the blank template as PNG or SVG and design on top of it in Canva, Photoshop, Affinity or Illustrator (hide the template layer before exporting).
4. Or drop your design here. “Full wrap” spreads one design all the way round, “Both sides” places it twice, and “One side” places it on the side customers see. Drag the preview to move it.
5. Download the print file — a 300 DPI PNG without guides. Tick “Mirror” only if you print sublimation paper yourself.

Where the front of a mug wrap is

Both ends of a mug wrap meet at the handle. When the mug stands with the handle on the right — the usual product-photo angle, and what a right-handed person sees while drinking — the right half of the file faces you, centred about three quarters of the way across. With the handle on the left, the left half shows (centred at one quarter). The template marks both lines. Scaylr’s mug and 40 oz tumbler mockups use the same rule, so a wrap made here shows its front in the mockup exactly where it will on the real mug. Straight tumblers have no handle: the seam is at the back and the middle of the file is the front.

Common mistakes

• Text next to the handle. The last 1/2 in at each end sits beside or under the handle, and Cricut advises keeping designs at least 0.5 in from it. Keep words and faces out of the orange handle zones.
• Mirroring a POD file. Mirror only paper you print at home. Printify and Printful want the design the right way round.
• A white line at the tumbler seam. Add 1/8 in bleed and let the background run past both ends so they overlap.
• A tapered template on a straight tumbler (or the other way round). “Skinny straight” tumblers take a rectangle; tapered ones need a curved, fan-shaped template.
• Low resolution. At 300 DPI a 20 oz wrap needs 2790 × 2460 px. A 1000 px design will look soft — run it through the AI Image Upscaler first.
• Text near the rim or base. Pressure is uneven at the edges; keep important parts inside the dashed safe line (1/4 in in from the trim).

FAQ

What size is an 11 oz mug sublimation template?

For a home sublimation blank, about 8.5 × 3.7 inches (2550 × 1110 px at 300 DPI); guides range from 8.2 to 8.5 in wide. Printify’s 11 oz file is 2475 × 1155 px and Printful’s is 9 × 3.5 in (2700 × 1050 px), so use your provider’s size when you sell through them.

What size is a 20 oz skinny tumbler template?

9.3 × 8.2 inches for a straight 20 oz skinny tumbler, which is 2790 × 2460 px at 300 DPI. MakerFlo’s template is 9.325 × 8.125 in; add about 1/8 in of bleed so the seam closes.

What size is a 30 oz or 40 oz tumbler wrap?

A straight 30 oz skinny tumbler takes about 10.3 × 9.6 in. A 40 oz tumbler with a handle is printed in two pieces: the straight upper body about 12.75 × 5.8 in and the tapered lower body about 10.2 × 3.7 in. Brands vary, so check your blank.

Which side of a mug wrap faces the customer?

Both ends of the wrap meet at the handle. With the handle on the right, which is how most product photos and right-handed drinkers see it, the right half of the file faces you, centred about three quarters of the way across. The left half shows when the handle is on the left.

Do I need to mirror my design for sublimation?

Only when you print on sublimation paper yourself, because the paper is pressed face-down onto the mug. Never mirror files you upload to Printify, Printful or another print-on-demand provider; they handle that.

What is the safe area on a mug template?

The area at least 1/4 inch inside the trim edge. The top rim, the base curve and the area next to the handle can print faint or get cut off, so keep text, faces and logos inside the dashed safe line and let only background run to the edge.
