How to upscale an image

When print-on-demand sellers need an upscaler
Print partners like Printify, Printful and Gelato want big files — often 4000 px or more for a shirt or poster — and a design that’s too small prints soft or gets rejected. That happens a lot with designs made in Canva at screen size, AI-generated art (often 1024 px), clip art bundles and older files.
- AI art from Midjourney, DALL·E or similar usually comes out at 1024–2048 px. A 4× or 2× upscale gets it to print size.
- Logos and text keep sharper edges than with a normal resize.
- Mockups and listing photos that are too small for Etsy’s 2000 px zoom can be brought up to size.

FAQ
How does the AI upscaler work?
It uses ESRGAN, a neural network trained to rebuild detail when an image is enlarged, instead of just stretching the pixels. Edges stay crisper and there’s less blur than with a normal resize. It runs on your own computer’s graphics chip through TensorFlow.js.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. The AI model is downloaded to your browser once (about 2.5 MB) and your image is processed on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, and it’s free with no sign-up.
How big can the result be?
Up to 4096 px on the longest side — for example a 1000 px design at 4×, or a 2000 px design at 2×. That’s 13.6 inches at 300 DPI. Larger outputs run out of memory in most browsers.
Will it make a blurry design print-ready?
It helps a lot with small or slightly soft designs, especially illustrations, text and logos. It can’t invent detail that was never there, so a tiny, heavily compressed image will still look soft. Check the result with Is My Design Ready? before you upload it to your print partner.
Does it keep transparent backgrounds?
Yes. PNG designs keep their transparency — download the PNG version.
Why is it slow on my phone?
The model does millions of calculations per image. A laptop or desktop with a graphics chip is usually 5–20× faster than a phone. 2× is much quicker than 4×.
