How to use the Etsy fee calculator

Enter your sale price, quantity, and what you charge for shipping and gift wrapping, then your own cost of goods and shipping cost. What the results mean

• Net profit — what's left after every fee and cost you entered, for the whole order.
• Margin — net profit as a percentage of revenue (price × quantity + shipping + gift wrap). Above 20% is comfortable for most handmade and POD shops; under 5% leaves little room for returns, discounts or a bad month.
• Break-even price — the price per item at this quantity where profit is exactly $0. Never price under this unless you have a specific reason to (clearing stock, a loss-leader, etc).
• Price for a target margin — solve the other direction: tell it the margin you want, and it works out what to charge.

Common mistakes sellers make pricing on Etsy

• Forgetting shipping is fee-bearing. The 6.5% transaction fee and the payment processing fee both apply to the shipping price you charge, not just the item price — "free shipping" built into the item price is taxed by Etsy's fees the same either way.
• Ignoring Offsite Ads until the bill arrives. It's easy to price as if it never applies, then get hit with 12–15% on an order you didn't choose to advertise. If you're above $10,000 in trailing sales, budget for it — it's mandatory.
• Pricing off the sale price alone. Cost of goods, your own shipping cost, and every fee together can easily add up to 25–40% of revenue before profit — this calculator adds them up so nothing gets missed.

FAQ

What fees does Etsy actually charge?

A $0.20 listing fee per item, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping and any gift wrapping, and a payment processing fee (3% + $0.25 for US sellers, and a different rate outside the US). On top of those, Offsite Ads (12–15%, only on ads-attributed sales), a 2.5% currency conversion fee if your shop and bank currencies differ, and a regulatory operating fee in a handful of countries can apply.

Is the transaction fee only on the item price?

No. Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee applies to the item price, the shipping price you charge the buyer, and any gift wrapping fee — not just the price of the item itself.

Do I have to pay Offsite Ads fees?

Only on orders Etsy's system attributes to an Offsite Ad click — you don't pay it on every sale. If your shop made under $10,000 in the past 365 days, participation is optional and the fee is 15%; at $10,000 or more it becomes mandatory at a discounted 12%, and it's capped at $100 per order either way.

Why does this calculator ask for a percentage instead of a fixed regulatory operating fee?

The regulatory operating fee only applies in specific countries (including Canada, France, Hungary, India, Italy, Spain, Türkiye, the UK and Vietnam) and its rate is set per country and changes over time, so this calculator leaves it as an optional field you fill in from Etsy's current published rate rather than guessing a number that could be wrong or out of date.

What counts as cost of goods?

Whatever it actually costs you to make or source the item — your materials and time if you make it yourself, or your print-on-demand partner's base product cost (e.g. Printify or Printful) if you use one. Enter it per item; the calculator multiplies it by your quantity.

How is the break-even price calculated?

It's the price per item where your net profit is exactly $0 after every fee and cost you've entered, holding your quantity, shipping charge and costs the same — useful for knowing the absolute floor before you'd lose money on a sale.

Is my pricing data sent anywhere?

No. Every number you type stays in your browser and is never sent to a server — the whole calculation runs on your device.
