Every "20oz tumbler template" on the internet gives a slightly different number, and the reason isn't sloppiness — tumbler blanks genuinely vary by manufacturer, and "20oz" alone doesn't even tell you whether the blank is straight or tapered, which changes the wrap's shape entirely. This is the full size chart, checked against multiple supplier specs, plus a free tool that skips the math.
Sublimation tumbler wraps run roughly: 12oz skinny 9.25 × 5.75in, 20oz skinny 9.3 × 8.2in, 30oz skinny 10.3 × 9.6in, and 40oz with a handle in two pieces (upper body ~12.75 × 5.8in, lower band ~10.2 × 3.7in). Those numbers are for straight tumblers, which unroll into a plain rectangle. Tapered tumblers are narrower at the base than the top, so their wrap is a curved arc, not a rectangle — a straight template wrinkles on a tapered blank. Blanks vary a few tenths of an inch by brand, so treat this chart as a strong starting point and measure your own blank if a design keeps landing slightly off.
Sublimation Tumbler Wrap Size Chart
| Tumbler | Wrap size | At 300 DPI | Shape |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12oz skinny | 9.25 × 5.75in | 2775 × 1725px | Straight |
| 20oz skinny | 9.3 × 8.2in | 2790 × 2460px | Straight |
| 20oz skinny tapered | ~9.3in top / ~8.5in bottom × 8.2in tall | — | Tapered (curved) |
| 30oz skinny | 10.3 × 9.6in | 3090 × 2880px | Straight |
| 40oz with handle | Upper 12.75 × 5.8in + lower 10.2 × 3.7in | 3825×1740 + 3060×1110px | Two-piece: straight upper, tapered lower |
Sizes checked 29 September 2026 against the size table built into Scaylr's Mug & Tumbler Template Generator, which itself cites MakerFlo, PrintSizer, Printify, Printful, SublimationGuides and Jennifer Maker for these figures. Blanks vary a little by manufacturer — MakerFlo's 20oz skinny is 9.325 × 8.125in, for example, close enough to the 9.3 × 8.2in used here that either fits with normal bleed.
Straight vs Tapered: Why This Matters More Than the Ounce Count
Two tumblers can both be "20oz" and still need completely different templates, because the ounce size describes volume, not shape. What actually determines the wrap's geometry is whether the tumbler is straight or tapered:
- Straight (cylindrical) tumblers have the same circumference at the rim and the base. Unroll that surface and you get a plain rectangle — width equals circumference, height equals the tumbler's height. Every straight tumbler of a given size shares the same rectangle, regardless of supplier.
- Tapered tumblers are narrower at the base than the top, like a cone with the tip cut off. Unrolled, that surface is a curved arc panel, not a rectangle — the outer edge (top) is genuinely longer than the inner edge (bottom).
Wrapping a straight rectangular design around a tapered tumbler doesn't just look slightly off — it physically doesn't match the surface. The excess material at the bottom wrinkles, folds, or leaves a gapped seam once pressed. If a batch of tumblers has come out looking amateurish, check whether the blank is tapered before blaming your technique.
The 40oz Handle Tumbler: Why It's Printed in Two Pieces

The 40oz tumbler with a handle is the trickiest size on this list because it isn't one shape — the upper body is straight and the lower body tapers in toward the base. A single rectangle can't wrap both sections cleanly, so the template is built as two separate pieces printed on the same sheet:
Upper body — straight
Roughly 12.75 × 5.8in. This is the larger panel and typically carries the main design.
Lower body — tapered
Roughly 10.2 × 3.7in. This narrower band wraps the base and needs the curved treatment a tapered blank requires.
A full-wrap design has to continue visually from the upper piece into the lower one, which is fiddly to line up by hand — this is exactly the kind of layout a template generator handles automatically instead of guessing with a ruler.
Why Every Guide Gives Slightly Different Numbers
Tumbler blanks aren't standardized the way, say, a sheet of A4 paper is. A 20oz skinny tumbler from one supplier can be a few millimeters different from another brand's version of the "same" product. That's why MakerFlo, PrintSizer and other guides don't always agree to the decimal point — they're each measuring their own stock.
Treat every chart, including this one, as a strong starting point rather than gospel. If a wrap is consistently a hair too big or too small on one specific blank, measure that blank directly with a soft tape measure (circumference at top, circumference at base, height) rather than assuming your supplier matches the average.
Get the Exact Template Without Doing the Math
Rather than eyeballing a chart and cropping a canvas by hand, Scaylr has two free tools that build the print-ready file directly:
Straight tumblers: pick the size and go
The Mug & Tumbler Sublimation Template Generator covers 12, 20, 30 and 40oz straight tumblers (plus 11oz and 15oz mugs) and outputs a 300 DPI PNG or SVG with bleed, safe area and the seam already marked. Drop in a design and it lays the wrap out correctly, no manual sizing needed.
Tapered tumblers: enter your blank's real measurements
Because tapered blanks vary by brand, a fixed size chart is a guess. The Tapered Tumbler Template & Design Warp tool takes your specific blank's top circumference, bottom circumference and height, then calculates the exact curved template and can warp a straight design into that shape automatically — seam and mirroring included.
If you sell the same design across multiple tumbler sizes, design it once on the largest straight size in the chart (usually 30oz or the 40oz upper body) and scale down for smaller sizes, rather than redesigning from scratch for every ounce count.
Mockups That Match the Real Wrap
Once the wrap is printed and pressed, a listing photo still needs to sell it. Rather than photographing every size on a real blank, browse Scaylr's tumbler mockup templates to generate a photorealistic preview of the finished product from the flat design file — useful for showing a design across several sizes without pressing a physical sample of each one first.
If you only stock one shape to start, pick straight — one template size fits every blank of that size from any supplier, with no brand-to-brand guessing. Add tapered sizes once you're ready to measure a specific blank; the setup is more involved but not a harder product to sell once the template actually fits.
